Chin 101 📚
There is no doubt that the chin is one of the most impactful areas to help complement a face and it's a highly requested treatment.
Here’s why: Chin filler can lengthen a face, balance a profile, tighten up a jawline, decrease the appearance of jowls|marionette lines, reduce the peau d' orange appearance (the little dimples that appear when you pout your lips) and soften lower face shadows.
I’ve been finding patients requiring corrective work from previous injectors and this is why I believe the chin can be an area that is challenging to perfect for less experienced injectors.
Above is a Before and After picture of my patient. We treated her chin and lips. Notice how the chin support shifts the entire shape of her face to a heart shape. I believe the lip results are even more beautiful because of the harmony the chin gave to her lower face frame. Aesthetic treatments should always take the entire face into consideration.
Benefits of Dermal Filler
Makes the face look more in proportion
Contours the face making it appear more youthful
Restores and enhances youthful curves of the face
Adds volume (where your muscle is slowly depleting as you age)
The Cost
The dosage and full treatment may vary from patient to patient. The cost depends on the treatment area and the amount of filler needed for each individual. Treatment can cost between $600 to $1450 and can last up to 2 years. I think that's an excellent investment.
Aftercare
This was Billie's first chin treatment, she was expected to bruise and have localised swelling and tenderness for 1-2 weeks post-treatment. This varies between individuals if you're low in iron, recently taken anti-inflammatory medications or consumed fish oils/supplements with a blood-thinning effect. I sent her home with a cold compress and provided aftercare instructions. I advised her to sleep slightly elevated to reduce swelling over the next week. I also recommended taking regular pain relief if the treatment areas felt tender.
I will see her back in one month to see her final results and review her treatment.
Injectors should consider the following:
Maintain proper facial proportions.
Follow the law of thirds for length.
Abide by the aesthetic E-line for profile balance.
Don't masculinise (widen) the beautiful taper on female patients and don't feminise male patients by tapering them instead of squaring them off.
I have found these simple approaches land my patients with natural, yet impactful shifts, with the least amount of product necessary.
